Why War Remnants Museum is special ?
The War Remnants Museum (Vietnamese: Bảo tàng chứng tích chiến tranh) is a war museum at 28 Vo Van Tan, in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam. It primarily contains exhibits relating to the Vietnam War, but also includes many exhibits relating to the first Indochina War involving the French colonialists.
The museum's roots date back to 1975, when it was called the Exhibition House for U.S. and Puppet Crimes. The name was shortened to Exhibition House for Crimes of War and Aggression in 1990, then changed again to War Remnants Museum in 1995, amid improving relations with the U.S. and increasing numbers of American visitors who sometimes complained about the choice of language.
What to explore at War Remnants Museum?
The ground floor of the museum is devoted to a collection of posters and photographs showing support for the antiwar movement internationally. This somewhat upbeat display provides a counterbalance to the horrors upstairs.
Even those who supported the war are likely to be horrified by the photos of children affected by US bombing and napalming. You'll also have the rare chance to see some of the experimental weapons used in the war, which were at one time military secrets, such as the flechette , an artillery shell filled with thousands of tiny darts.
Upstairs, look out for the Requiem Exhibition . Compiled by legendary war photographer Tim Page, this striking collection documents the work of photographers killed during the course of the conflict, on both sides, and includes works by Larry Burrows and Robert Capa.

Reviews
This museum contains artifacts, models and displays from several wars, uprisings and invasions occurring in Vietnam throughout its history tho most of the displays and photographs are from what is widely known as 'the Vietnam war'. It's a sobering experience to see the devastation and suffering that was inflicted upon the country. It's a very one sided view but it pulls no punches with jars containing miscarried deformed foetuses and a whole gallery of photos of 3 generations of people with terrible birth defects showing that the affects of chemical weapons is still a problem today. It is the quietest museum I've ever attended as everyone shuffles through each room in poignant silence. History buffs will appreciate the collection of war photography that has been donated by photographers who documented the war from both sides. This museum is a must see to believe experience.
A very beautifully curated museum that highlights the pure ugliness of Americas aggressive war with Vietnam.
This museum was extremely powerful and sobering. It was very well organized, descriptive, documented and interesting. All this happened so recently that rightfully so is the feeling of national pride and country is very strong. Plan on spending a few hours there, if you really want to see everything. I went just an hour and a half before closing and wasn't able to finish the top floor, so I went back the next day and I'm glad I did. Know also that the propaganda in this museum airs a little on the strong side. There is a lot of anti-American sentiment in the museum, but you can't say it isn't justified.
