Why Tumalog Falls is special ?

Tumalog Falls, one of these natural wonders is the unique horseshoe waterfall of Tumalog Falls in Oslob, a municipality 170 kilometers from Cebu City. Lately, it has gotten a lot of attention after it became a side trip for people who wish to see the butandings. Tumalog Falls is a must-see attraction, especially if you are going to the Oslob Whale Shark watching area or to Sumilon Island.

TUMALOG area is currently managed by Oslob local government and it’s good to see that they are keeping the place developed to make wondrous, safer, accessible and providing an easeful way for the tourists & visitors.

What to explore at Tumalog Falls?

Tumalog Falls is situated in the town of Oslob, Cebu where the famous Whale Shark is also located. It is just about 20-30 minutes away from the whale-watching site. This immaculate nature attraction is truly breath-taking. Though Tumalog Falls was only discovered recently, more and more visitors are coming to explore it.

At the entrance, a natural pool will delight a visitor. Hundred year-old trees still grow in the area giving the place a truly primeval appeal. The falls itself provides a humbling impression as the down pouring of fresh water forms a cascading motion like a rainfall. Going to the falls will truly require an adventure as the road going there seems to be quite steep but the magnificence of the place can surely compensate the effort. The place is indeed a must-see especially for people who want to have a moment to commune with nature.

How to get to Tumalog Falls?

1. From other Provinces: Take any Cebu-bound flight of Cebu Pacific, PAL and Air Asia.

2. From Cebu City Terminal: Take Ceres bus liner bound for Bato-Oslob. Travel time is approximately around three hours (it depends on traffic). Jump off point is at the crossing of signage “Tumalog Water Falls”.

3. From crossing, it’s about 10-15 minutes drove away from the main road. You opt to ride a “habal-habal” for Php 30.00/person one way. Motorcycle can take two riders.

4. From Butanding destination: Hire a habal-habal (motorcycle) to direct you through at the said place. Not exactly know the fare cost from there.

Tips for you

  • An approximate of 15 minutes away by car from the Butanding watching area up to drop-off point.
  • You can bring food as you may lay a picnic while water from the falls sprinkles. It is discouraged to leave any garbage around the site.
  • The road is paved so it’s going to be an easy ride. May pass short uncemented road but it’s manageable.
  • Don't stay late though as there is no electricity even in their shower & toilets
  • You should always bring a bottle of water to combat dehydration.
    What to bring
  • Best during the rainy season for heavier water volume but in early May, the flow was sufficiently strong
  • It is safe to swim beneath the falls and it’s waist to neck deep. The water current is restrainable.
  • There are quite a few stones in the pool which can hurt your feet so be careful.
  • Private vehicles can only park few meters away from the said falls and one has to take about 20 minutes walk on steeply road to get to the site. Another option is to take a habal-habal ride where commuters are charged P50 round trip fare for a solo back ride.

The hike to the waterfalls takes around 10 minutes. It's not that far from the parking area though the steep road makes it difficult and tiring. When you get there you'll realize that it's worth it :)

i enjoyed the hike getting there since we were blessed to have very good not-so-hot weather. upon reaching the falls, i was pleasantly surprised because it was misty, really tall and dramatic. we even viewed a rainbow along with the lovely rays of sunlight. it's dry season when we went so no swimming, just showers of cool fresh water.the hike back was challenging for me since i never had a lot of exercise and my body wasn't used to the strain lol.always bring a bottle of water to combat dehydration.

We had the falls all to ourselves and there wasn't much water the day we went - it was very mystical looking and breathtaking but we were only there for about 10 minutes to enjoy the scenery. I did notice a CR and a place to rest at the end of the walk. It is all downhill to walk and then you have to walk uphill to get back to your car - it is a steep hill - not for handicap
