Why The Strand Hotel Yangon is special ?
The Strand Hotel, which opened in 1901, which faces the Hlaing — or Yangon — River to its south, is one of the most famous hotels in Yangon and Southeast Asia, and is managed by GCP Hospitality. The hotel is named after its address, at 92 Strand Road.
The hotel is listed on the Yangon City Heritage List. Since the beginning, it was regarded as “the finest hostelry east of the Suez” and “patronised by royalty, nobility and distinguished personages". In 1993, the hotel was for the first time listed among the Select Members of The Most Famous Hotels in the World. In 2003, Andreas Augustin published the first history of the hotel, after years of extensive research.
What to explore at The Strand Hotel Yangon?
A national landmark in Yangon’s centre, this charming 3-storey Victorian hotel offers a taste of the past with marble flooring and rattan furnishings. High ceilings and vast spaces are among the now rare luxuries in each of Strand Hotel's thirty-one Suites that will remind guests of times gone by in their central hotel in Yangon. Teakwood floors, hand carved wood frame beds and ceiling fans round out the colonial charms, tastefully balanced by Burmese lacquerware and antiquities in the bedroom and separate sitting area. Near floor to ceiling windows let in Yangon’s abundance of natural light during the day while their team of dedicated butlers attend to guests’ needs around the clock.

Tips for you
After a 22 hours trip from Europe without any sleep we arrived totally jetlagged in "The Strand" and could relax from the very first second. You are warmly welcomed. Check-in is done in 2 minutes while you are sitting on a comfortable sofa and sipping a tea! The lobby is vast and welcoming, our room was very very large, quiet and comfortable with a bathroom to die for. Thoughout the three days my significant other and I enjoyed fantastic service with a slight old fashioned touch. The only comment I would make: There is no breakfast buffet but everything you chose from the wide menu is served at your table. As this is done slow and only dish after dish after dish breakfast can take up to 45 minutes or longer. So make sure you book your tour guide accordingly. PS: The petit fours, sweets and chocolates you find as a welcome from the GM are superb!!! For a city like Yangon where you still cannot take anything for granted this guesture (and also that quality) is the extra extra mile in the hotel business every frequent traveller acknowledges and highly appreciates. CHAPEAU!
Try the Strand Sour, soak up the colonial atmosphere and try the fantastic bar snacks, calamari was excellent. Happy hour is exceptional value and complimentary canapés are a winner.
