Why The Commons is special ?
Started over a dozen years ago, The Commons quickly gained a reputation as an unpretentious, welcoming café – a place where you could relax in the soft sofas, bean bags and cosy corners. You can choose from a number of quite different rooms or, if you prefer your meals al fresco, the garden courtyard.
The menu is highly varied, ranging as it does from wraps to pastas, from rottis to melts, from burgers and sandwiches to waffles, from soups to salads – you can just about have it all. Enjoy fresh sandwich bar from Monday – Friday 11am to 3pm for selection of sandwiches.
The beverage selection offers milk shakes, fresh fruit juices, frappes and frappucinos, teas and, of course, a range of delectable choice of coffee. Our delicious desserts – all of which are meant to tempt the untemptable into mouth-watering indulgence.
Must try dishes:
Kothu or Koththu Roti
Rotti Karaththaya (Rotti Cart) is a favourite for out-door catering at functions and private parties. It is made from Godhamba roti. This food is also made with vegetables, egg, and/or meat, and spices.

Reviews
This tucked away cafe/coffee house is in the heart of Colombo on Flower Road Opposite the Russian Embasy. There is parking for about 8 cars. The seating was comfy, and had various set upsfor those who wanted to carry on their work on their lap tops, to those that wanted to chill out or just sit at a table and enjoy the food. The food selection is a wide range from hamburgers to pastas etc. The staff were very attentive, service reasonably fast. The food was tasty and good quantity too. I enjoyed the burger and chocolate milk shake. Prices ares as expected for a Colombo cafe and within reach of expats and those doing welll in the Colombo scene. Worth a visit Visited August 2015
Visited this little cafe/bistro type cosy place last year for coffee and a few days ago for a late breakfast. Enjoyed the typical string hoppers with curries and chutney in the backyard outdoor area. The manager kindly allowed our maltese puppy dog was allowed in in the outdoor area. Clean and prompt service. Location is ideal for a relaxed evening after a hectic day of sightseeing. I recommend this place to anybody!
The Commons offers an amazing variety of food - Sri Lankan, Mongolian, 18 different types of burgers and Continental as well. Normally, restaurants which offer such a wide spread don't tend to be very good at anyone of them, but the rotis and burgers at the Commons are fantastic. Sampling all their options will take multiple visits, but I will be happy to go back for more
The steak tastes alright , proving is OK , but the employees mixed up my order for medium rare and I'm a person who can't stomach raw meat. Please take caution if you are similar to me
