Why Thaung Tho Village is special ?
Thaung Tho, or Taung To, or Taung Tho is a small village of the Pa-O tribe in Inle Lake. It is also a part of Five-day-market in Inlay region. For an additional charge, it’s possible to go down to the village of Thaung Tho, which is left off most tourist itineraries. Thaung Tho village has a pagoda but is particularly worth visiting on market day. You can also see potters at work in nearby Kyauk Taung village. Located far at the southern end of the lake, this place is off the tourist circuit and really worth a visit.

What to explore at Thaung Tho Village?
Numerous small villages along the lake itself and the shores can be seen along the way. The houses are small and modest, built on stilts from wood and bamboo. The long ride to the Taung Tho Market is the perfect opportunity to see and photograph the picturesque scenes; surrounded by mountains, this part of Myanmar is just incredible.
At Taung Tho, besides Taung Tho Kyaung pagoda which is a complex of small stupas like Indein, you will also have a chance to visit Thaung Tho market, one of rotating five-day cycle. This one is a popular event which brings the local people down from the surrounding hills and in from the waterways.
