Tips for you
We learned about this restaurant thru Trip Advisor and having enjoyed another tofu restaurant in Kawasaki some years ago we were glad to have discovered another one - especially one that has received glowing traveler reviews. Well, finding it was an adventure by itself. One of the reviewers mentioned turning right after exiting Gora Station but that proved horribly wrong. Fortunately the station staff was helpful enough to point us in the general direction and after asking a dessert shop that was right next to Tamura Ginkatsutei, we were relieved to see the familiar path down to it's entrance and it's green roof tiles. There was a friendly Filipino server who made or ordering easy and recommended us the popular dishes which were the as-reviewed tofu and tonkatsu sets. It wasn't the type of tofu meal we had before but it was just as good. In this case, believe the hype - every drop of it. Oh, and try to tofu dessert as well. The restaurant is very cozy and is well-known among the locals. And as advertised it does get crowded so it pays to get there early. In fact, having taken note of this we planned our arrival time to be at or just before 11am. We opted to take the shinkansen in the morning from Shinagawa vs on the return of our day trip just so we could get to this restaurant by our targeted arrival time slot. Very glad we did as when we left there was already a queue and we didn't have to wait long when we ordered.
They are most famous for their Tofu Katsu, and there is Very good reason for this! The bowl looks big on other people's table, but it's quite shallow, so the portion is good for one person.
