Why Taipei Expo Park is special ?

The TAIPEI EXPO PARK is an urban recreational facility that comprises three typical park areas (Yuanshan, Taipei Fine Arts Museum and Xinsheng) while offering venues for the hosting of various events in the former Flora Expo’s pavilions. Among the iconic Flora Expo displays, still available, on the parks’ premises, mostly featuring perennial flowering/foliage plants and turfs, are the 3-dimensional Green Walls, Flower Walls, “Flora Rainbows”, Special Exhibition Area, Flower Landscape, Rare Flowers & Plants Area, and Fruit Tree Area, which aim to keep the Expo’s images and variety alive, while impressing park visitors with the openness of a vision of verdure, combined with enhanced recreational quality. The TAIPEI EXPO PARK is also perfect for accommodating the hosting of exhibitions or other events as it lies strategically in the vicinity of MRT Yuanshan Station.

What to explore at Taipei Expo Park?

First off is Yuanshan Park, where you'll find gardens, a lively outdoor food court and the Eco Ark (a giant structure made of recycled bottles). Across Zhongshan N Rd you'll find the Fine Arts Museum and further west Xinsheng Park with its innovative pavilions from the flora expo (some of which may still be open when you arrive) and Lin Antai Historic House . North of here the park merges with the Dajia Riverside Park for biking and views of the Grand Hotel.

Fine Arts Museum

Constructed in the 1980s, this airy, four-storey museum of marble, glass and concrete showcases contemporary art, with a particular focus on Taiwanese artists. These include pieces by Taiwanese painters and sculptors from the Japanese period to the present.

Taipei Story House

This house was built in 1914 by a tea trader said to have been inspired by a building he saw at the 1900 Paris Expo. Today it's a space for Taipei nostalgia and history, and past exhibitions (which change often) have included topics such as Chinese sweets, toys, matchboxes and comic books.

Lin Antai Historic House

This Fujian-style 30-room house , Taipei's oldest residential building, was first erected between 1783 and 1787, near what is now Dunhua S Rd. As was typical in those times, the house expanded as the family grew in numbers and wealth, reaching its present size in 1823.

Excellent spot to do some airplane spotting as it is right under the approach path of Taipei Songshan Airport. I recommend walking all the way to the end of the park for the best view.

Not just "that weekend" but every weekend farmers and vendors come to Taipei Expo Park to sell their products, from fruits to vegetables to soup to breads. Right at the Yuanshan MRT Station exit. There is no way you can miss it. Simply follow the crowd to exit. I have a fondness for Chinese soups and this weekend there were two stands that sell them. One sold chicken soup and other spare rib soup. Both sold for NTD50 each. Delicious and cheap. The chicken soup even came with a drumstick and optional a couple of jalapeno pepper to add into your soup. I did saw a woman munching the pepper just like that. Holy Sh.... I can handle very spicy food but that is beyond me. A flea market nearby but much smaller and nothing much to see or worth mentioning. The park also includes an area that opens all week long, a bakery / supermarket that sell various stuffs and very long line was formed, a food court that sell mostly snacks and a line of stores that sells children goods. At the center of it all is a free-to-ride merry-go-round. Expect very long lines during the weekend. At the time of writing, the park was Halloween themed. Kids were wearing various Halloween costumes all throughout the park and the atmosphere was loud but fun. Seeing the pint-sized Spiderman, Captain America, TMNT, and Frozen made me LOL. Last but not least, the park is directly in the flight path of commercial airlines landing into Zhongshan Airport. Sitting on the bench and watching them land every minute feel really good. Its been a long long time ago since seeing a commercial airline taking off or landing above my head in close proximity. Feels like childhood....
