The sight and exuberance of both the open air museum of houses as well as the Cotai strip are good attractions for discerning tourist to Macau. The museum showcases five residences built in 1921 for top officials of the island and they have been restored extensively in 1992 with a view to act as a window to the colonial past. Out of the five houses 3 are part of the museum while the other two are used as exhibition gallery and reception respectively. The houses are painted in soothing green and white with white windows on all sides. Some buildings have front terraces and all have arch-like entrances. There are two little gardens along the Avenida da Praia, Taipa, where the museum is located. The nearby bus routes are: 11, 15, 22, 28A, 30, 33, 34. The entrance fee is MOP5, with free entrance on Sundays. The museum is closed on Mondays, otherwise open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The Taipa houses are well kept with as much effort for authenticity. For those interested in architecture and who have a strong imagination of what the past could have been... it is a good place to visit... I only wished that there were tour guides who will explain the houses. Were these1 occupied by portugeese or by locals or both. The houses by itself shows interesting designs that could have been explained by a knowledgable guide... but with a 5MOP entrance fee...I am not complaining...
