Why Sri Mariamman Temple is special ?
Sri Mariamman Temple is a Hindu temple set on Lebuh Queen and Lebuh Chulia in Georgetown’s compact Little India district: a vibrant community whose outer face is of saris, incense shops and banana leaf curry houses. Built in 1833, the temple is dedicated to the Hindu god, Lord Subramaniam. Also known as the Arulmigu Sri Mahamariamman Temple or Queen Street Indian Temple, it is the oldest Hindu temple on the island. Shining diamonds and precious stones are part of its façade and it is a typical example of Hindu architecture, built in the south Indian Dravidian style.

Thaipoosum is one of the biggest event in Penang (Not only in Penang, most of the South East Asian countries, India and Sri Lanka) and is celebrated at the Mariamman Temple. This temple also very beautiful and spiritual place for worshipers and tourists as well. Marriaman Temples is on the way to Penang Hill in a few meters distance.
Just don´t miss it. You won´t be disappointed. See all the details and enjoy the diversity of gods and statues!
I was surprised we could visit the inside of the temple and shoot some pictures while there was a ceremony.Very nice light inside, i did not use flash, because i don't like to disturb the ceremony.
