Why Sothy's Pepper Farm is special ?

Sothy's Pepper Farm started, in this form, on 11 March 2013, when SORN Sothy took it over from its former owner, who had planted what is now our main pepper field in 2007. Another pepper field had been added in 2011, and the third field was added in September 2013.

Sothys Pepper Farm is dedicated not only to produce pepper and other fruits, but they are also ready to share information about their work with the visitors. They provide free Pepper Tours to our visitors in English, but also in Cambodian-Khmer, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Kampot Pepper is the first Cambodian product to benefit from the World Trade Association status of Protected Geographical Indication, like – to use widely known examples – Champagne from the region of the Champagne in France, or Parma Ham from the Italian town of Parma.

What to explore at Sothy's Pepper Farm?

Visiting the farm, you can learn about organic farming methods for pepper, different types of pepper and the growing and harvesting seasons, sustainable farming and energy practices and the challenges of starting a new venture.

You will see the pepper plants, the way they are processed, depending on season also the harvest of other fruits, such as mango and lime. With some luck you will get an introduction by the knowledgeable and educated manager who is in charge of this well-kept German-Cambodian-owned farm. The roads are dirt tracks but easily manageable. Interestingly, this mountainous area was up to the mid-90s still one of the last holdouts of the Khmer Rouge.

My friend and i visited 3 pepper farms in the Kep/Kampot area and this was the only one that gave us a proper tour (went to Farmlink as well which explained us a bit in their factory). Norbert the owner took his time to sit down with us and explain the farming in detail. After that we went for a little walk around the property, showing and explaining also the fruits that they grow. Its all very well run, with a friendly and warm atmosphere. Definitely a great place to find out about the delicious pepper. They offer drinks and food at very reasonable prices and also have a lovely bungalow with a great breeze and view overlooking the valley. Vielen Dank Norbert für die ausführliche Tour! Will definitely come back!
