Why Siem reap international airport is special ?

Your gateway to the ancient Angkor Wat, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is one of Cambodia’s busiest hubs for both domestic and international flights. Named after the famous ancient temple city of Angkor the new terminal was inaugurated in 2006 and has since seen rapid expansion to meet the demands of a burgeoning tourism sector. The Cambodian government has plans to construct a new airport 60kms from Siem Reap but until this plan gets the green light Siem Reap Angkor International will no doubt continue to see significant growth.

The airport receives a number of international carriers including Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Air Asia, Air Macau, Asiana Airlines, Jetstar Asia, Lao Airlines, Korean Air, PMTair, Royal Khmer Airlines, Bangkok Airways and Vietnam Airlines.

What to explore at Siem reap international airport?


The departures hall houses a Dairy Queen and a coffee shop to grab a bite before heading through immigration. The check in area is small and you shouldn’t have to wait too long. Once you’ve cleared immigration you’ll find the departures hall is small but pleasant. As of April 2011 the US$25 departure tax is included in ticket prices and so you no longer need to pay this tax before leaving the country.

Transport Options (how to get to your hotel)

When you enter the arrival hall you will be overwhelmed with tuk-tuk drivers and taxis vying for your attention. Look for your hotel pickup if you arranged one or pick a friendly driver to take you on the short ride into town. The town is less than 15 minutes from the airport and taxis charge a flat rate of US$7 to all hotels in town..

Eating & Drinking

From October 2010 – March 2011 retailer SajiBumi which operates restaurants, bars and cafes in airports in Malaysia and Singapore have established a number of new food and beverage outlets in Siem Reap Angkor International Airport. The new outlets include international brands such as Pizza Company and PHO24 and some local brands like The Blue Pumpkin and FCC Bar.


For a small fee of US$8.00, passengers travelling on all airlines in any passenger class can enjoy the 300m2 Le Salon lounge. Facilities include all-day food and beverage services, internet access through wi-fi and inbuilt tabletop PCs, international newspapers, magazines and TV, music and comfortable seating. Le Salon Lounge is located on the first floor of the international departures hall.

In the departure hall free internet access is provided at the Free Internet Corners. Telecommunications are provided through ONLINE and BBG services should you wish to call overseas from the post office where you call also post those last minute postcards.

Smoking rooms and prayer rooms are also available for use in the international departure hall.

Shopping and duty free

Siem Reap Angkor International Airport has a duty free shops that sells the usual collection of cosmetics, perfumes, chocolates, tobacco and alcohol. There is also an outlet for Artisans d’Angkor where you can find interesting artworks and souvenirs. Recently two new outlets have been opened; EZI Wear & Travel and Korean Ginseng Tea. EZI Wear & Travel offers a range of fashion-forward beachwear, lingerie and a selection of handy travel items such as bags, purses and neck pillows. Korean Ginseng Tea sells quality Korean tea.
