Why Seoul Museum of History is special ?
Seoul Museum of History was founded by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to present the city’s history and culture from the Joseon Dynasty to the present day. It opened its doors on 21 May, 2002.
The Museum’s aims include to preserve the city’s traditional culture and history so as to enforce cultural identity, to preserve cultural heritage, to provide citizens with an opportunity to deepen their understanding and awareness of the city’s culture and history and to enhance the image of Seoul as a leading cultural centre.
Further to presenting historical collections, the Museum manages a number of educational programmes and traditional art workshops. It also offers a range of cultural programmes, such as concerts.
The centre comprises the following facilities: Permanent Exhibition Hall, Special Exhibition Hall, Exhibition Hall of Donated Collections, Education Rooms, Auditorium, Museum Shop, Museum Cafe and Information Centre.
What to explore at Seoul Museum of History?
Outside you can see one of the old tram cars that used to run in the city in the 1930s as well as a section of the old Gwanghwamun gate. Going inside, you can admire more about the museum. On the first floor, it is Special Exhibition Hall. This spacious hall offers various exhibitions on the history and culture of Seoul and hosts other exhibitions by contributing organizations and artists. On this floor, you also can visit Exhibition Hall of Donated Collections. This place displays donated collections. The third floor is Permanent Exhibition Hall. This area divided into 4 sections; Seoul, the Capital of Joseon, People's Life in Seoul, Culture of Seoul, and Development of the Seoul City.
How to get to Seoul Museum of History?
Gwanghwamun Station (Seoul Subway Line 5), Exit 7.
Upon exiting the station, turn around, and turn right at the 4-way Intersection.
Go straight about 500m to arrive at the museum on the right.
Seodaemun Station (Seoul Subway Line 5), Exit 4.
Go straight about 600m to arrive at the museum on the left.

Tips for you
You can learn everything about Korean history there. And hey, it's all free! Definitely a must see
Admission is free and I must say these free entrance is a real good deal! Not a really big museum but you really need a few hours to explore all the areas. There's just too much to learn over there. From the knowledge of the development of the country, to Joseon dynasty history to the miniature city landscape of korea, it's just soo educative and interesting to explore. Unlike museum in Singapore, seoul museum has a very interesting & creative ways to portray their display. That alone is enough to wow you for 1/2 an hour. You can take picture with their system and best part, they will email the photos to you so you'll get to keep a memory of your trip there!
