Why Santa Cruz Church is special ?
Santa Cruz Church is a Baroque church located in Plaza Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz district, Manila, Philippines. It was built when the arrabal (suburb) of Santa Cruz was established by the Jesuits in the early 1600s. The church had undergone many repairs and reconstruction, with the last reconstruction done in the 1950s. Today, the church architecture employs a California Spanish Mission façade silhouette with the usual Filipino (Asian-Hispanic) baroque ornamentation. The church facade is topped with an effigy statue of Our Lady of the Pillar, the patroness of the church whose feast happens during the second week of October.

What to explore at Santa Cruz Church?
The church facade is characteristically Baroque with Ionic piers vertically dividing the first two levels in three parts. Three semicircular arch doorways form as main entrance to the church. A Celtic-like window flanked by small semicircular windows is found at the center of the second level. Forming as the pediment, the topmost level has its raking cornice in undulating liens emanating from the broken pediment found above the statued niche. The domed belfry rises on the right in six levels. At the Santa Cruz Parish, a small park was built that linked the area into the headquarters of the Spanish cavalry, the building that would become The College of San Ildefonso, operated by the Jesuits.

Reviews
This church is situated across China Town. Easy access using LRT 1 from Carriedo Station. It's clean and you will not find any vendors outside the church, however the only thing that you can see outside are the sampaguita ( flower ) vendors.
It is one of the oldest churches within Manila City. It has a newly renovated color, orange. Im quite disappointed with the color. The preservation bureau should study more on how to properly conserve and preserve.
What I like best here is the altar: a bleeding lamb, reminder of the love of God who offered His Son as the redeemer. The church itself is huge. It is also properly ventilated. The priests hear confessions most of the time.
Around the corner from the Carriedo LRT station, the Santa Cruz Church was quite magnificent. The building is a faded white, with a massive domed tower dominating the façade. The hectic streets outside are forgotten once you walk inside this big, peaceful building. The comfortable interior had decoration aplenty, with colourful stain-glass windows setting a nice scene. A magnificent church and an interesting place to visit.
