Fushimi Inari Taisha
One of the most well-known shrines among the people of Kyoto, this shrine is nicknamed "Oinari-san." The deity of this shrine is famous as the god of wealth. Originally called "Inenari," is the god of the grain harvest, worshipped not only by people operating businesses but by people engaged in agriculture as well. There are over 10,000 Torii gates lining the hilly footpaths. Each of the Torii is donated by a Japanese business. The donated Torii is now a famous sight of Kyoto city.
Kyoto Imperial Palace
The former Imperial Family’s residence from 794 to 1868.
Nijo Castle
Nijo Castle was built in 1603 as the Kyoto residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate (1603-1867). The Tokugawa Shogunate used Edo as the capital city, but Kyoto continued to be the home of the Imperial Court.
Sanjusangendo
Sanjusangendo temple, literally means Hall with thirty three spaces between columns describing the architecture of the long main hall of the temple, is famous for its 1001 statues of Kannon,
Kiyomizudera
Kiyomizu-dera is a historic temple that was established in 778, even before Kyoto became the capital of Japan. The Main Hall of the temple is designated as a national treasure. The temple has many other important cultural properties including the Deva gate, west gate, three-storied pagoda and bell tower. Kiyomizu main hall's balcony was built using a special method; huge 12-meter high keyaki (Japanese Zelkova) pillars were assembled without using a single nail, standing magnificently on a hillslope.
Kinkakuji Temple
Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion Temple) also known as Rokuonji (Deer Garden Temple), is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf.
