Why Pongour Waterfall is special ?
Pongour Fall is the popular spot that tourists shouldn't miss once traveling here. According to K’Ho magnanimous legend, in the old time, this land was managed by a beautiful woman named Kanai (a head of a Kho tribe). She was very good at conquering dangerous animals. Among those, there were four big rhinoceros which always obeyed her commands; to change waste land to cultivate and to fight against enemies. Suddenly, one spring, she was dead on the full- moon day of the first month. That made the four rhinoceros very sad, they didn’t eat anything just sit by their boss until they died. Then, one morning, native people here saw that the place where she was born had a splendid waterfall. They told that Kanai hair turned into the water and rhinoceros horns turned into fossil stones to be arranged into order. It symbolized the attachment of human and nature.

What to explore at Pongour Waterfall?
Located about 50 km south of Dalat, it is regarded as one of the most beautiful and imposing falls in the West Highland with about 40 km in height and over 100 m in width. Surrounded by 25 ha unspoiled forest, the waterfall slips into numerous sandstone stepping from top to bottom. Its massive water powerfully falling down seven floors produces sonorous sounds that can be heard from miles around. Pongour Fall is an ideal place for tourists to come and discover its distinctive beauty.

Reviews
This is a 7 tiered waterfall with 40 meter drop. IMHO it is the most beautiful and picturesque waterfall in all of the southern part of the country. The flow of this waterfall has decreased significantly from its once glorious days due to a damn built upstream several years ago. However, it is beautiful and very relaxing place to spend 3 - 4 hours. The waterfall is approximately 50 Km outside of Da Lat and takes about 1.5 hours by motorbike. There is a short walk down to the falls. Unlike many of the other more popular falls in Da Lat, this fall is not overrun by tourists, or hucksters. There are 2 vendors near the falls offering beverages and barbecue. Locals tend to picnic under the cliff just opposite the falls in the shade. Also unlike other waterfalls in Da Lat there seems to be less garbage strewn about. The other thing I like is that the water rarely runs red-brown like it commonly does at other waterfalls near Da Lat. You can venture into the falls and climb up various levels. But, there is no swimming at the base of the falls. The water is cool and refreshing on a hot day. Moss grows in some areas of slow water flow, so step carefully. My recommendation would be to go on a weekday, and go early in the morning for best photos. Waterfalls are best shot with an overcast sky, or at least wait until a cloud obscures the direct sun on the falls.
