The weekend market now stretches into the week. It's located on a side street off Phang Nga Road just a short distance from the Royal Phuket City Hotel. This market was started after the 1997 economic crash when local rich merchants were forced to sell their Mercedes car and expensive jewelry to the highest bidder.
This market evolved into a "car boot" sale where those needing a little cash would spread their valuables on the ground for sale.
Popular items include handcrafted leather boots, ceramics, carvings, clothing, and music. Most recently, the success of this market has spread and now vendors with merchandise to sell from around Thailand arrive to Phuket for the island's weekend market.

Go with an empty stomach and an open mind! Primarily a local destination, hence all signs are in Thai, but very helpful store owners. You really sometimes don't know what you're actually eating, but amongst us all ( & there were 9 of us) the only dodgy thing we ordered was corn in a tub!The stalls for shopping was good too, but a very stuffy place due to the thick plastic covering acting as a roof! Go round the outskirts of The market & venture into the middle as & when.

This was our second trip to the Phuket night markets and once again we had a very wet night out. It was pouring with rain but this didn't dampen our experience. Great fun for anyone that loves to bargain with clothes, watches and many other cheap items up for sale. Prices asked are always high so make sure you bargain to get a good deal. We have not yet been brave enough to try any of the food stalls at the market but love the shopping and ended up buying heaps of shirts and pants for our two year old son.The markets are pretty large so make sure you have more than a hour available if you want to see it all. A must do for anyone visiting Phuket.

Girls walked up and down the aisles of these hectic markets while we patiently waited at the husband waiting area (hehehe licensed bar area) which made the shopping so much easier. Although the Aussie girls bought a few dresses and make up items, for me the highlight was the food. think street stall with a bit of class and cleanliness combined with great variety and freshly cooked and I was happy to "wait".Not sure that these markets offer any better variety or value than say, Patong but I am happy to stay away from Patong. But that's only my opinion, others will love the stench and hassle of Patong.
