Reviews
Fantastic cooking class and cycle out to vegetable village. Guide was informative, English was occasionally hard to understand but generally fine. Quality of food and hygiene was great. Will be able to make the recipes at home easily. Chef had a good sense of humour, although he relied on the guide to translate instructions. Great feast with other students when we finished. Highly recommend!
We booked a cooking class for $17 each, for three of us through corner home stay. The class sizes can vary from 2-10 pax apparently, but it was just the three of us, which was great. We were collected from our accommodation by taxi (included) and deposited at the restaurant where we were introduced to Tihn, our guide. Tihn was a great guide, showing us all around the market (next door), talking us through the different, foreign fruits and vegetables, and their uses in Vietnamese cooking. We returned to the restaurant to be introduced to chef Sun, and commence the class- beginning by washing our hands. The place was spotless, and all steps throughout were carried out to a very high level if hygiene; with Sun and the team wearing gloves when hand mixing food, for example (not common place at home- speaking as a once chef). Sun and Tihn were careful to make sure each of us was involved with different elements of the food prep and cooking, so it was hands-on, not just spectating! The meal of fresh spring rolls, shrimp and pork mango salad, and beef with cashew nuts was served with sautéed water spinach and steamed rice (and beer- not included, but cheap at only 12k dong) by the river side. We all agreed that despite out involvement it was the best meal we had eaten in vietnam (and further afield!). The attentive staff cleared our plates, and presented us with a small dessert of caramelised banana. The class was a really fantastic way to spend a couple of hours, and assuming the restaurant serves food of equal quality and cleanliness I would 100% recommend a visit!
