Why Noryangjin Fish Market is special ?
Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market or shortly Noryangjin Fish Market (노량진 수산시장) is an extensive farmers fish market in the neighborhood of Noryangjin-dong in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is located east of 63 Building, and just south of the Han River. Metro line One passes through at Noryangin station near-by. Exit the station at exit 1 and walk under the bridge.
Noryangjin Fish Market was established in 1927 as Gyeongseong Susan (경성수산) on Uijuro(의주로) in Jung-gu near Seoul Station and moved to its current location in central Seoul in 1971.
In a poll of nearly 2,000 foreign visitors, conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in November 2011, stated that visiting the Market is one of their favorite activities in Seoul.
What to explore at Noryangjin Fish Market?
Going to Noryangjin Fish Market, you can see many kinds of seafood. Every kind of aquatic life form swims around in tanks and bowls in this old-fashioned, covered market. Crabs, rays, tuna and shellfish are on display along with more exotic species such as sea cucumbers and sea squirts. The orange one is called meongge – we don’t recommend trying it. After exiting the subway station, turn right, and cross the railway tracks on the pedestrian bridge.
You can go up on the 2nd floor of the fish market are half a dozen traditional-style restaurants, selling the freshest fish and seafood. They specialise in raw fish, but also serve spicy soups with octopus, blue crab or fish plus steamed crab, grilled prawns or clams, or jeonbokjuk (abalone rice porridge). All come with side dishes such as grilled fish, quail eggs, acorn jelly, beans and tofu. Beware of sannakji , which is live baby octopus.

Tips for you
It's amazing just seeing the whole variety of seafood here, but the annoying thing has got to be those 'sales people' at every store trying to rope customers - they can be a bit agressive.
Ok, it is really cool to see all the squirming creatures that one may have never known existed, and to be immersed in the Korean culture, but I agree with other tourists that it is not a high-value place to eat seafood. To pay 15 kilowon ($15) for a small flounder and then be directed to the place that is likely run by the fishmonger's cousin to cook the fish (or one like it) for another fee, likely as high or higher, seems pretty steep to me. Yes, the experience of fresh kill is enticing, but I don't favor my food moving in my mouth or attaching its tentacles to my airway, which apparently has happened to some hapless visitors. I understand that some of the vendors will cook the seafood at the stall, but I either could not find such a place amongst the hundreds of vendors or did not find their set-up consistent with basic public health standards. Definitely go and enjoy the view and interaction with the people and critters. The floor is wet, and I was prepared to wear shopping bags over my shoes based on other reviews, but it was not that bad; just walk carefully. The smell was also not overpowering. As for getting there, either line 1 or the new #9 will do. If you take #9, depart the subway from exit 2 and you are only 50 yards facing the stairs going up over the #1 line and taking you to the market on the other side of the tracks. Your nose will let you know you are in the right place by the time you get halfway over. Take lots of pictures. Go ahead and buy, but realize you could get the same or better with all the sides elsewhere and without feeling like you have been had.
