Why National Museum Of China is special ?
The National Museum of China sits to the east of Tiananmen Square and south of East Chang'an Street, opposite to the Great Hall of the People. Finished at the same time, The National Museum of China and The Great Hall of the People were both among the "Ten Great Constructions" completed for the 10th birthday of the PRC. The National Museum of China was built on the basis of the former Museum of Chinese History and the former Museum of Chinese Revolution, being the most inclusive museum of time-honored Chinese culture and history in the country. After four year's renovation and expansion, the new National Museum reopened in March, 2011 ranks among the largest modern museums in the world.
What to explore at National Museum Of China?
Běijīng’s premier museum is housed in an immense 1950s building on the eastern side of Tiān’ānmén Sq, and is well worth visiting. The Ancient China exhibition on the basement floor is outstanding. You could easily spend a couple of hours in this exhibition alone. It contains dozens and dozens of stunning pieces, from prehistoric China through to the Qing Dynasty, all displayed beautifully in modern, spacious, low-lit exhibition halls.
Look out for the 2000-year-old jade burial suit, made for the clearly well-endowed Western Han Dynasty king Liu Xiu, and the life-sized bronze acupuncture statue, dating from the 15th century. The 2000-year-old rhino-shaped bronze zūn (wine vessel) is another stand-out piece. The Ancient Chinese Money exhibition on the top floor, and the Bronze Art and Buddhist Sculpture galleries, one floor below, are also worth seeing.

Tips for you
Reviews
This museum is interesting thanks to its gorgeous architecture. Be careful, most of the exhibitions signs are not translate in english.
From the folks that brought you; paper, steel, gunpowder, chain drive, boats, stone arch bridges, seismometer, tea, tofu, and cloning this place is not.Epic fail! You will get a huge basement of bronze caldrons, and earthen pots. Some jade, a little calligraphy art, lots of modern state gifts going all the way back to Mao! Lotsa BIG Mao paintings! A small non congruous random sampling of porcelain, jade, and silk paintings. A money exhibit. No science, no technology, no industry, no agriculture, not even everyone's favorites: war and art.I don't know how about a food exhibit? I mean giving the French bread, the Italians noodles, and the Germans sauerkraut and sausage has to count for something! You will get what accounts for one of the lamest "architectural exhibits" I have ever witnessed. No woven arts or textiles, hey, silk? Would love a silk exhibit.Try again China! You know you can do better. Sell off the shoddy State gifts and show the nation a true National Museum.P.S. Best cup of coffee in Beijing. Book a ticket online, aviod the main entrance line and enter on the north and head straight to the cafe. The coffee in the comfortable, nicely decorated, empty cafe is worth a visit.
Initially tried to visit the museum on a Monday, only to find it was closed but was successful the next day. There was a long queue to enter, in fact there were many long queues! Make sure you bring a hat or umbrella as it was a long wait in the sun. Once permitted to go inside there was a further for foreigners who had to present id - passport, drivers licence etc in order to get a ticket - but entry is free. There was then another queue to enter the museum building itself! The long wait was worth it as the displays are excellent and it did not feel crowded even though there must have been huge numbers of people in the building. The display are easy to access but there are not enough seats in the exhibition halls. There is a pleasant cafe at one end of the ground floor.
