This street is full and I mean full of fabric shops. Many of which are pushy and poor quality. This store was very good however I did the whole street buying from 5 store som beautiful quality fabrics. I would say number 66 was the best just about opposite to this one. Quality and choice was by far the best. I am just a home sewing nut but I met an Australian designer in number 66 and she agreed with the best accolade.
I was looking for fabric stores in the area and this was the top rated according TripAdvidsor search for "silk shops". It was a galore of silk fabrics. Only if I had more time to go through, touch and feel all the lovely fabrics they had for a more full experience. Their prices were much better than the others on the whole street. The staff in the store were very helpful. Luckily, the owner's sons were there and they helped me get what I was looking for in a jiffy. They were really genuine and recommended me other places in sunny Singapore. They also gave me their name-card as they have an online store which delivers worldwide. I'm returning to Singapore somewhere next year and I'll definitely be making a stop to their store and this time with a lot of time in my hands. lol.. :))
I sought out this shop amongst the dozens on Arab street because of the rave reviews here. I went in expecting excellent service, and that is what I got. I picked out a couple of cotton prints, and even though they seemed low thread count I took the woman's word that they had "just arrived from India" the day before. I paid $36 SGD for 3.5 meters of cotton print and another synthetic fabric, which I thought was expensive, but I am used to paying outrageous prices for everything here. When I got home I realized the shop woman had cut two pieces of the ends of a roll, which means I ended up with permanent marker, holes, and some sort of gummy on another piece. Another section of the print looked smudged, like it had been rubbed after it was printed. It also was cut so crooked on every end I will surely have waste. I'm disappointed, but mostly due to the fact that I didn't feel like I would need to inspect the fabric after they cut it since they were so nice and helpful. My advice would be to just go to one of the less expensive shops on Arab street and barter for the same, low quality damaged cotton print that surely came out of a factory in Shenzhen.
My family visited this family-owned store today and had a wonderful experience. They have a great selection of beautiful silk and cotton fabrics, in wide variety of patterns, colors and styles. The proprietors are very knowledgable and helpful, without being the least bit pushy.
