Reviews
I grew up with heavy soy sauce hot spicy beef noodles, so this clear broth beef noodles is new to me, and I like it! I had half-half, ie, half beef shank and tendon, both the beef and tendon are cooked to melt in my mouth, so delicious! The little cold side dishes are very good too, I especially like the bean curd skins, and eggplant. This place is super small, indeed a hole-in-the-wall, and there is always a queue, no matter at what hour, but it's well worth the wait.
The beef noodles at Lin Dong Fang is of the clear broth variety, which belies its intense herbal flavour. The noodles here are also very toothsome and springy, meaning that you could be well-satisfied just slurping down plain noodles and soup. The beef is deliciously tender. When you eventually get a seat in this tiny establishment and get your order served, look for the chilli paste among the condiments on your table. It is an essential add-on to your soup that elevates it to perfection. Tread carefully—a little chilli paste packs a ton of flavour. This cosy hole-in-the-wall has very limited seating, and you are bound to wait in queue for the customers ahead of you to finish their meal. But it is well worth the wait. Various small dishes are also available. The braised beancurd skin is particularly good.
They have done an awesome job on the basics - beef and the soup. I'll make sure visit them every time I visit Taipei.
