Why Largo do Senado (Senate Square) is special ?
Senado Square (Largo do Senado) is a public square in Macau. It is located in the central area of the Macau Peninsula. Covering an area of 3,700 square meters (4,425 square yards), this is one of the four largest squares in Macau; the others being Praça do Centro Cultural, Praça do Lago Sai Van and Praça do Tap Seac. In 2005 it was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List as it forms part of the Historic Centre of Macau.
The Senado Square is a paved area in the centre of the former Portuguese colony of Macau, enclosed by the buildings of the Leal Senado, the General Post Office, and St. Dominic’s Church. The square is paved in the traditional Portuguese pavement. The main road of Macau's historic centre, Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro passes through the square.

What to explore at Largo do Senado (Senate Square)?
There are shopping centers and traditional Chinese restaurants around the square. Fashion clothes, famous snacks and the scenic environment make it a famous attraction. Firework displays, lion and dragon dances are usually held on special days such as the Chinese Spring Festival and Christmas. One can go and enjoy those activities.
Around the Square, there are other attractions. To the east of the square, there lies the Macau Cathedral. At the end of the paved road, there is the St. Domingo's Church. On the third floor of the church there is a museum of paintings, sculptures and liturgical ornaments that illustrate the history of the Roman Catholic Church in Asia. Walk to north of the church and you will arrive at the Ruínas de S. Paulo (Ruins of St. Paul's). This is the most famous landmark in Macau. Right at the east of the Ruínas de S. Paulo is the Museu de Macau (Macau Museum), in which historical relics of Macau are exhibited. Walk to the southeast along the Av. De Almeida Ribeiro (San Ma Lo) from the square, and you will find the Grand Lisboa, which is a casino hotel and is known for its magnificence.

Reviews
We were eager to see the historic sights in Macau and started off with Senado Square. The tourist office is in a building on the square and has useful brochures about things to see and information about the heritage buildings. The Square was incredibly crowded with sightseers while we were there - a Sunday - but it was still possible to get a sense of what it would have been like 'in the olden days'. I am not sure all that black and white paving really adds to it but it does look striking! A good place to start a walk around Macau!
the evening hours of our first day was spent here.huge well lit square with the beautiful mosaic designs all over was a real feast for the eyes.the comfortable seating arrangements under the trees everywhere were a big relief.could see the brands being sold at the outlets around the perimeter of the square.ocean of humans out there with strolleys like we had, young and not so young like me,from various destinations of the world had come for a Senate at that Square.the Fountains were good.lighting was at its best.must visit place while at Macau
i liked the cobbled steps and when i see these, i get excited knowing im near the center of the action already. The shops and portuguese restos here are great.
