Why Lapu Lapu Statue is special ?

The Lapu-Lapu shrine is a 20-meter bronze statue found in an enclosed park at Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City. This statue was erected in honor of Datu Lapu-Lapu, a native leader who defeated Spanish soldiers and killed the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. This landmark is being preserved for historical conservation because it is in this very spot that the first Philippine battle happened on April 27, 1521.

This place is located along the shores of Punta Engaño, covering the whole area where the historical battle took place. A 100 years old monument of Lapu-Lapu can be found in this place. A brief history of the place is also engraved on one of its monuments.

It is free to enter the monument area and a nice place to take some photos. However, there are a lot of vendors inside, kinda ruins the feel of the place.

A little out of the way if your in Cebu city. Travelled there as part of a tour. They had a restaurant very close by, and a river that was decent for picture taking, but aside from that there was little else tourist wise. A nice statue, and a good lunch if your willing to make the drive, however it's not a big disappointment if you don't make it to this spot
