Why Lake Shojiko (Fuju Five Lakes) is special ?

Sandwiched between Lake Motosuko and Lake Saiko, Lake Shojiko (精進湖, Shōjiko) is the smallest of the Fuji Five Lakes. Together with its two neighbors it was formed when lava flows from Mount Fuji divided a large prehistoric lake into three smaller ones. The lakes seem to remain connected by underground waterways as they always maintain the same water level of 900 meters above sea level.

Lying on a line running southeast from Fujisan, Lake Shojiko has a completely unobstructed view of the mountain with not a single building or construction in the way. The mountain’s presence can really be felt from Lake Shojiko. From the nearby panorama platform, one can see the Sea of Trees as well as Mt. Omuro. The green water of Lake Shojiko indicates rich plankton content, capable of supporting many different types of fish.

What to explore at Lake Shojiko (Fuju Five Lakes)?

Outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and fishing are popular around the lake, as well as water sports such as water skiing, jet skiing and boating.
