Labieng Lom Restaurant Vientiane Laos
Tips for you
I had dinner here with a group of friends last Saturday night. The food seemed fresh and there was a fantastic variety, both the ready-made buffet (various skewered meats with sauces, sushi. salads, dessert - mainly ice cream and coconut or similar jellies), or having your own tabletop "barbecue soup" with all kinds of meat and seafood plus vegetables. There were many more dishes than I had room to try. I didn't find it barn like - yes it was big but full of family groups with children excited and laughing because of the entertainment by actors dressed as cartoon characters. Apologies for the poor quality of the photograph and my clumsy attempt to "pixielate" the face of the woman at the table
Labieng Lom is the biggest sindat in Vientiane and was the first to offer the smorgasboard buffet format. It is built over water and can seat about 500 or so - it was extended in 2009 as it is so popular with groups of Lao. The price is 38,000kip ($4) and for that you get unlimited meats (beef, pork, bacon, chicken, liver), seafood and vegetables for the sindat (grill meat over charcoal and cook veg in a soup around the edges of the dish). Unlike some other sindat places, Lobieng Lom provides the more expensive veg like oyster & black mushrooms. There is also a ready-cooked buffet (roast chicken, various Lao salads, fried chicken legs, stir fries etc), a steak bar with beef/chicken steaks and a variety of sauces available, a sweet selection and an ice cream freezer. Very good value for a family feed.
