Why La Bicicleta is special ?
La Bicicleta is actually a bicycle shop in Hanoi. Now with a Spanish chef holding the reins in the kitchen, the man with the ideas, Guim Valls Teruel has transformed what was originally a bicycle shop from a tapas bar into a bistro. And with it comes some quite fantastic Catalan cuisine. If you know the food, then start salivating. If you don’t, then time to get your tongue around it as the new menu includes dishes like fideua amb allioli, Catalan noodle paella, arros negre, black rice paella with squid and green peas, escalivada amb Romesco, roasted vegetables with Romesco sauce, and the moreish patates braves den Tomeu, or Barcelona-style fried potatoes.
How to get to La Bicicleta?
A) Go to no. 54 Quang An (west lake) and turn into the small alley next to it, go straight to the end.
B) Go to Lane 31 Xuan Dieu (just right after Clom's closet shop), go straight about 200m to no 44.

Tips for you
This restaurant is tucked away in a lane that you are hardly likely to come across unless you are looking and really worth the effort to find. It is just off Xuan Dieu, so pretty central to ex pat area Tay Ho.....it's a funky relaxing pale decorated with bicycles hanging on walls, bicycle parts, pics of bicycles etc.....it was a place I could easily spend a few hours, with a book or catching up with a friend. The waitress was lovely and friendly as was the owner who was really hospitable and made sure to make me feel welcome, which was very pleasant. And the food was absolutely delicious - I had meatballs with pepper in a delicious tomato sauce, a refreshing salad with tasty dressing, and the waitress brought lovely complimentary home made potato crisps. As it is a tapas restaurant I would love to come back with my husband and share a larger range of dishes. There was only one disappointing aspect, and that is that although it was a Saturday lunchtime, there was only one other set of customers and they went to sit on another floor. I guess many people just don't know about this great place. The owner did tell me that it's very busy on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Tuesdays because they show movies in the first floor part of the restaurant. So I would definitely return on a Tuesday next time if I come with my husband and friends , but the quiet Saturday lunch is fine if you're on your own and just want to chill. But definitely the best meatballs in town, and I judging by the meatballs, I can only imagine how delicious the rest of the food must be!
