  • The restaurant is open for lunch from 11:30am - 3:00pm and for dinner from 4:30pm-9:00pm. They close on Wednesday.
  • On the side note, for those who pay with credit card, the merchant code is not categorized under restaurant.
  • Be aware you sit on low chairs at a low table on tatami mats so if you have difficulty with mobility or getting up and down from the floor you will have a problem.

We were in Japan for a film festival and a visit to old friends. We were treated to dinner here. Incredibly and stunningly presented food, a series of around ten or more courses lovingly crafted served in what looked like antique crockery. The private dining rooms are a sight to behold. It's got a timbers traditional feel to it and attention to detail in all aspects is key here. The food is awesome and the chef presents sushi and sides dishes in the most imaginative ways, each course is a picture, a work of art. Your taste buds will go wild as you give yourself over to wild culinary abandon. This is why we have mouths. I for one am happy to spend $1000 on my mouth and this kind of passionate food( even though in this trip it was a gift). It's like a dream eating here. The staff and hosts are welcoming and they deserve all their accolades. Anyone seriously into their Japanese cuisine has to eat here. I love it and will certainly visit again when in Japan. Book in advance though.

This is quite literally as traditional as it gets for fine Japanese dining, probably for all of Kyoto- and therefore maybe all of Japan. The private rooms are beautiful, immaculate, and museum-quality restorations of an ancient tea house. Stepping into the building feels a lot like walking through a time portal- from the freshly-cut bamboo decorations to the poetry and paintings on the walls. As an American it feels at once very foreign but also extremely homey. Service is incredibly formal, but not unfriendly. English was well-spoken here, and we didn't have any trouble communicating. The food is, in many cases, unbelievably good, but beware a few courses that aren't designed for Western palates. For a course-by-course description, check this out: Don't forget your wallet.
