Why Kek Lok Si Temple is special ?
The Kek Lok Si Temple is a Buddhist temple situated in Air Itam in Penang and is one of the best known temples on the island. The construction of the temple began in 1893 and was inspired by the chief monk of the Goddess of Mercy Temple at Pitt Street. With the support of the consular representative of China in Penang, the project received the sanction of the Manchu Emperor Guangxu, who bestowed a tablet and gift of 70,000 volumes of the Imperial Edition of the Buddhist Sutras
What to explore at Kek Lok Si Temple?
At the Kek Lok Si Temple ground, it contains beautiful gardens and sacred pond. One of the famous ones will be of course "The Liberation Pond" (Sacred Turtle Pond). Chinese tradition believes that a turtle is a symbol of longevity, strength and endurance. It is an act of spiritual liberation when a turtle is captured and set free in this pond.
Another interesting view that you can see there will the supreme statue of The four heavenly kings. Sited in the Hall of the Devas (Tian Huang Dian), each of the Mighty Kings controls one of the four points of the compasses.
How to get to Kek Lok Si Temple?

There's a new Lift but its more like a Furnicular Rail to go to the top, great views !!!
The laksa near kek lok si temple is the best laksa I've ever eat in this 20 years
I would say the most beautiful Chinese Temple in Malaysia... The art and statue simply amazing
Try the assam laksa near the wet market...claimed to be the best in Penang and some even said Malaysia.
The Kek Lok Si Temple complex is huge. Be prepared to do quite a bit of walking and climbing up stairs but the effort is definitely worth it. Great views of the temples, pagoda, Buddha statues and 30m tall statue of Kuan Yin. Kek Lok Si Temple is about 5mins drive apart from Penang Hill so it makes sense to visit these attractions at the same time.
We recently had the opportunity to visit Malaysia a few days. Enlisting time I visited Kek Lok Si temple. In my opinion this can be considered as one of the most beautiful temple systems, the most spectacular in Malaysia. It was built on the hills of Penang and overlooking the city from here is very nice. You can take the tram to visit the temple. If you walk will take quite some time. From here I can take beautiful shots of the city. The process of restoration, new construction, or addition has made it more colorful , the Chinese is probably like the color more than any people on earth. The temple has too many visitors. The remarkable attractions in the Guan Yin statue, releasing reservoir, the trees, the temple corners, very beautiful temple roofs. towers and lots of beautiful, gorgeous scenes. Visit time: about 1-2 hours is more than enough. Go !!!
It is believed to be the 2nd largest temple in South East Asia and one of the biggest attractions in Penang Island. We have spend almost 3 hours moving around one place to other inside the temple. Very quite and calm atmosphere in side the temple complex, there are lots of space to sit and relax and coffee shop also available. Visiting Kek Lok Si Temples is worthy and we enjoyed it.
