From the three coloured haginomochi to the sweet red bean soup, you will not know what you have missed if you have not tried them before. Having been here before, kasagiya was my main priority destination when visiting kiyomizu dera with hubby. Easy to miss unless you know what to look for, so keep an eye out for the following: walking down sannenzaka from kiyomizu, you should take the right road (ninnenzaka) when you see it. Kasagiya is to your left with black curtains, small entrance and a very tiny seating area. Ignore the aesthetics of this place as the sweet desserts should be the main star to your visit. My husband and I are not absolutely fond of red bean (in fact I quite dislike it). This place, true to its reputation and how I remembered it, is an absolute must visit for tourists wanting a true taste to something unique than your usual matcha ice cream/dango or any other westernized desserts.
