Why Joo Hooi Café is special ?
It’s a no-brainer why Asam Laksa is one of the hot favourites at Joo Hooi. The fish flakes (mackerel or sardine) lends the soup a savoury taste that salt and MSG alone cannot achieve. With slivers of raw onion, cucumber and the odd slice of pineapple, it’s an explosion of fresh flavours that tickles the taste buds.
Over busy lunchtimes and at weekends, the people on the stall at the back of the cafe work flat out, preparing bowls of steaming, spicy broth and noodles, flavoured with hunks of fish, tamarind, mint, pineapple and chilli. If you’ve not tried asam laksa before, this it is an absolute must (3.50 ringgit for a small bowl, 4 ringgit for a large one).

Reviews
Loved that you can find quite a number of local dishes here. We ordered the curry Mee, oyster omelette, Penang laksa, char kwey teow, popiah and chendol. Wouldn't say that the food is super fantastic but the convenience of getting better than average local food at one stop made me give it 4 stars. We really enjoyed the oyster omelette - very different from Thai crispy ones and Singapore fluffy ones. Theirs is really wet, much like watery scrambled eggs. The Penang laksa was alright, I personally felt that the noodle was too soft and over cooked - personal preference really. The place is not air conditioned and is really warm, please don't rock up in a shirt or long pants! Would visit again if I want variety
Good Assam Laksa and Cendol here???????? Cendol can be ordered in from the stall outside. Just pay a minimal surcharge and u can enjoy it sitting down.
