Ito-ya is a nine-storey stationery shop in Ginza that's popular for its hard to find items and authentic Japanese products such as washi paper, calligraphy brushes and origami supplies.

Stationery ranks high amongst the popular souvenirs of Japan. It has long been one of Japan's most prolific industries. Japanese stationery is known for its quality and innovative products. Traditional items such as washi paper are difficult to find outside Japan.


What to explore at Itoya?

If you just can’t get enough of stationery, this store is your happy place. The main building, which is scheduled to relocate in summer 2015, sells everyday stationery and Japanese calligraphy goods, while the annex building (K.Itoya) sells fountain pens, art tools, globes and so on, and also offers a picture-framing service.

“Stationery shopping complex! Wow!” Itoya is a Japanese chain of stationery stores with branches in several parts of Tokyo. This one in Ginza is the biggest with eight floors of paper and paper related products, pens and pencils of all sizes, colours and price levels, any Japanese calligraphy goods you imagine, art tools, globes… There is even a small café at the top floor with good views of Ginza Avenue. Even if you are not an artist it is a pleasure to wander around papers and pens, and the end you´ll buy something for sure… A good place to visit if you are in Ginza. To get there: Ginza Station (Ginza, Hibiya, Marunouchi lines), exit A13 The opening times are Mon-Sat 10am-8pm, Sun 10am-7pm
