The Museum Of Islamic Arts is set close to the National Mosque. It contains one of the world’s best collections of Islamic art.
Near the National mosque is this museum devoted to Islamic arts, which is the largest in the world. Has artifacts, jewellery, artworks, and a comprehensive library. Open from 10 am to 6 pm.
This is a good place to introduce someone to Islamic Arts and Civilization. I particularly like the architectural models of world famous mosques on display.
This oasis just a stone's throw from the hustle and bustle of Chinatown is truly worth a visit. I can't remember a museum visit I enjoyed more. The space/architecture alone will keep your camera busy, and the collection is well displayed and introduced. I knew very little about Islamic art--and probably still don't know much--but I can appreciate the beauty of the art and artifacts on display here. And the gift shop is excellent--they will bubble-wrap all purchases for you. Everything we purchased made it back to Taiwan without a scratch. This was our 4th visit to KL, but our first visit here. Don't miss this!
A superb set of displays detailing different styles of art within the Islamic world. Galleries on mosques & an excellent collection of illuminated Qur'ans show how art is used in religion. Beautifully kept manuscripts & Qur'ans that are hundreds of years old. They illustrate the craftmanship & love that went into those books. The next galleries show more how Islamic art is in the various cultures, as opposed to art in Islam, which was covered in the previous gallery. Wonderful examples of Islamic art in the Chinese, Malaysian, and Indian cultures. Upstairs, specific space is given to clothes, weapons & furniture, with some interesting room recreations from various cultures. Don't forget to look at the stunning inverted dome before you leave! There's also a water feature in the grounds out the back of the museum, and also a lovely giftshop.
