Tips for you
There was a time when a decent steak was hard to come by here in Japan. I imagine 1969 was such a time. That's when this chain of steak restaurants "Hungry Tiger" was introduced in Yokohama. At the time I'm sure they had very little to compete against and stood out as an amazing value and quality. However I think those days are long past. Nowadays a decent (not rubbery, and not a brick) steak can be had somewhat easily and somewhat moderately priced at quite a few places. Not that 300g of sirloin steak is overpriced at almost 4000 yen for the regular set, but I have had better, and for much less. Ok now that I got that out of the way, the restaurant itself, located in Grand Tree shopping center in Musashi Kosugi certainly feels like a decent enough place to spend some hard earned cash, but unfortunately I think the place charges a bit too much for a mediocre steak.
After reading the reviews, a group of us decided to visit Hungry Tiger in Yokohama. After finding the restaurant (wow yokohama is busy) we were faced with a 40 minute wait for the table. However, after a drink at a near bar we returned. The restaurant staff noted we were English and presented us with an English menu! The wagyu steak burgers were amazing, portions great, wine tasty and the price was very reasonable. The reviews that mention the spitting hot plates are accurate, but this is part of the experience. Well worth a visit and if you have to wait, well worth that too.
First things first, reservation is definitely needed if you think you can just "walk up and eat." The place is extremely popular and usually prone to thirty to forty minute wait lines.
