How to get to Hualin Buddhist Temple?
Hualin Temple can be a bit tricky to find. The easiest way to get there is to head east along Changshou Lu from the subway station of the same name. Just before you reach the intersection with Kangwang Zhong Lu, turn (south) down the alley that is lined with jade stalls. The temple is a little further down this street.

Unlike the other temples in Guangzhou I've visited, this one was free to get into. That might be due to the fact that it was smaller, but it wasn't any less amazing. We happened to be there while there was a funeral going on, so it's still a living temple, though not busy. It's also off the beaten path (in the jewelry section of the city, strangely enough), so it wasn't infested by piles of tourists taking pictures. It also didn't have the "government-regulated" feel that Six Banyans did. It's 8-5, so get there early enough to explore the Hall of 500 Arhats!
