Why Hollywood Road is special ?
Hollywood Road, running from Sheung Wan in the west, through Soho and northern fringes of Central in the east, was one of the first roads built in Hong Kong. Laid by royal marine engineers and given its famous name well before that other, better known Hollywood, the road has been one of the city’s main thoroughfares for more than a hundred years. It’s also been one of the city’s most important centres of commerce. It was here that Chinese traders first brought their wares from across the border to sell and swap with British and European traders. It’s a commercial spirit that continues to flourish on the road today through the dozens of independent antique traders that have called the street home for decades. There is no better place in the world to find top quality Chinese antiques, from Ming vases to the jade pieces Hong Kong has become famous for.

What to explore at Hollywood Road?
Walk up the hill to join Hollywood Road. On the left of the junction is the Hollywood Centre, a small arcade packed with ceramics and furniture shops. The Asian Art Archive (www.aaa.org.hk) is located on the 11th floor.
Turn right, and cross the street, where, juxtaposed with new restaurants, serviced apartments and modern galleries, you still find traditional coffin makers. Hollywood Road Park [MAP DOT 1] with its Chinese gateway still provides the living with a pleasant spot to while away their free time. Old sepia photos on the notice board show how the area looked in the early 19th century.

Starting from the West (from Queen's Road West) and moving East on Hollywood Road is quite a unique experience. Be prepared for a lot of walking, hills and steps but if you are for it, you will get to enjoy a temple (Man Mo), a funky signature cocktail (3 Monkeys), many different types of old and new art galleries (even more if you venture up and down the steps/walkways going down hill whenever you can) then to the finer art galleries (USD 10,000+ for paintings) then to restaurants as Hollywood winds into Wyndham and finally to Lan Kwai Fong for more great restaurants, bars (very energetic after 10pm), bands and incredible people watching.
With its galleries, antique shops and western style cafes, pubs ,you can combine old and new ,west and east in Hollywood Road.I saw many foreigners like me through that road, it is also very popular amond residents who come from Europe.dont miss that shop you can find very creative products:"Goods of desire"
My wife and I spent a relaxing afternoon exploring the alleys off Hollywood Road, and enjoyed the exotic items on sale. With a little imagination you can pretend to be in Hong Kong of old, and find "priceless" memorabilia to clutter up your home for decades to come.Definitely worth a visit.
