Why Hakone Ropeway is special ?
The Hakone Ropeway is the name of an aerial lift, as well as its operator. The funitel line links between Sōunzan and Tōgendai via Ōwakudani, all within Hakone, Kanagawa, Japan. Hakone Ropeway was a single line until 2001. From 2002, it became a system consisted of two distinct sections, although they are still treated as the same line. The second of its kind in the nation, after Hashikurasan Ropeway. It makes a part of the sightseeing route between Odawara and Lake Ashi. The company belongs to the Odakyū Group.
The Hakone Ropeway is the perfect place for enjoying Hakone's scenic panorama. On clear days, majestic Mount Fuji is visible, and the steam rising from the volcanic "Jigokudani" at Owakudani down below gives the trip an added thrill.

During operating hours, the ropeway leaves one station after the other at the above mentioned intervals. However, passenger safety is our priority so, on occasion, the ropeway service will either be suspended or unable to operate as scheduled because natural hazards such as snow or strong winds are forecast. We did a round trip. Cable cart from Sounzan to first stop, here you can look at Mt fuji if its clear and visit hot springs, be warned it smells really bad of rotten eggs but worth visiting. Get back on cable cart and go to the bottom, get on the boat which takes you across the lake. We then walked to Hakone Shrine which is nice and worth a visit. Then we carried on walking to the Ropeway that takes you up Mt Komagatakesancho, took us about 30 Minutes to walk from the Shrine to here. There isn't much to do up Mt Komagatakesancho except look at the views. If its cloudy, don't bother going up. We then walked back to our hotel near Gora station across the mountain. This took us about 2.5 hours, it is a fairly hilly walk with constant ups and down, by the end of it my knees were hurting and my legs shaking from the constant stepping up and down. If you're fairly fit it shouldn't be a problem but leave your self plenty of time for rests. We were losing daylight so had to rush, I had no torch or maps. Its a straight forward walk though. Make sure you study the walk before hand as there is a junction you come to and you need to know which way you're going. If you like walking and your hotel is back across near the Gora area I recommend this round trip! Get up early to maximise your chances of a clear day to see mt Fuji and to give yourself plenty of time to do this round trip. it does take awhile.
Great views from this cable car ride. Make sure to check the weather before you go in order to get views of Mt. Fuji
