Why Great Wall Of China is special ?
Beijing is not only the political center of China, but it is also the most strategic city in the north. Many dynasties in Chinese history actively built walls in this area. Among many historical ruins of the Great Wall in Beijing, the wall built during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) is the most often seen and best preserved, running over 342 miles (550 kilometers) and containing about 827 city wall platforms, 71 passes and countless towers. The famous sections include the Badaling, Huanghuacheng, Mutianyu, Jiankou, Gubeikou, Jinshanling and Simatai.
If you want to experience the culture and enjoy the beauty of the Great Wall, meandering along the bricks of the Badaling is your first choice. It is famous for its deep-rooted culture, magnificent sights and complete military facilities - the essence of the Great Wall. You may find many pictures of it in magazines and guide books and printed on stamps. Being the must-see section of the Great Wall, it is sometimes flocked with visitors especially during holidays.

My son and I decided to travel to the great wall at Badaling by train. this didn't quite go the plan. we caught the subway from our hotel to the Train Station North Beijing, this was easy and went quite well, when we arrived at the train station things started to unravel. the train to Badaling was full and the next train was hours away, so if your thinking the same way we were take this as a warning. we are pretty resourceful however and there were plenty of locals hovering around the train station waiting to offer a deal to take tourists to Badaling for the day. tip is you need to be able to do sign language. after bartering with several different locals we managed to agree on 100 CNY to take my son and i in what we thought was going to be a car with he, I and a driver. Wrong. We followed the guide on foot for about five hundred meters to an overcrowded mini bus full of equally non English speaking Chinese tourists.needless to say our sign language would improve quickly and one particular young guy tried particularly hard to communicate with us.we traveled to Badaling and I must say the experience was amazing, the Great Wall is astonishing and the method of our transport although cramped was a good decision. we had a great day that we will not forget. If you are going to Beijing, do not miss this attraction
we travelled to China with SNA tours in October, a great place to visit and the tour company were fantastic. The Great Wall was one of our many highlights. Making the effort to walk up as high as we could was well worth the effort. The view was breathtaking and memorable, you can't believe how high you are until you get to the top.
Decided to take a taxi directly from the hotel, which is highly recommended. Taxi drivers are very polite and safe, but don't expect a conversation or tourist information coming from him. Badging has been designed for tourists so all amenities and facilities are there. No need for a private guide, you just explore as far as you are comfortable. Everyone discovers the wall at their own pace, two hours were enough for us. Lots of eating and souvenir options. It was very cold when i arrived so it was ideal to purchase ear muffs, hat and gloves directly there. Keep warm like the locals and buy hot corn on the cob. Options like KFC and Subway are there but enjoy the local dumplings and noodles. There was also a post office there which is handy. Apparently back in the city only banks sell stamps for postcards.
