What to explore at Grasshopper Adventures Day Ride Tours?

Gather at the Grasshopper Shop

We start from our conveniently located shop and ride through the back lanes to get out of town. We pass through fresh markets, lively neighbourhoods and head for the north east of the city.

Countryside Riding

After only a short pedal we find ourselves in the true countryside where farmers tend to their fields and villagers go about the daily rituals that have remained unchanged for decades, if not longer. Water buffalo lazily roll in the mud, goats nibble at the foliage, and friendly locals wave from all directions.

Village Life

We make some interesting stops, first at a fresh market to learn about the different produce on sale and then continue on to see bamboo weaving which is used to construct everything from roofs and walls to fans. As we make our way to the countryside, we pedal through neighbourhoods on the outskirts of the city being greeted by friendly kids on their way to school. We take a walk through a typical central Myanmar village and learn about their way of life and their different crops. On our way back to town we stop at a tea shop for some delicious snacks and tea. We return to our shop at around 11:30/noon.

I booked the U Bein sunset ride after doing a day cycle ride previously in Bangkok. The tour was actually a small group tour but when we were picked up at our hotel as arranged it turned out it was just my husband & myself on the tour that day so we ended up with a private tour for the cost of a group tour - bargain. The bikes were in excellent condition & less than a month old.We were taken in their mini bus to the outskirts of Mandalay where we started our trip. Stops enroute included local food, a local family making lacquerware alms bowls & another family making cigars. The tour makes it way to Inwa which is crowded with the tourist horse carts but along the way it felt lovely & remote & we saw no tourists. I definitely couldn't have found the way without our guide.Plentiful drinks & snacks were provided along the route & water drinking bottles were on the bikes, cycle helmets were also provided. After Inwa we crossed the river & made our way along a fairly busy stretch of road to reach the highlight of the day U Bein Bridge. Here we stopped for coconut milk drinks & a tea leaf salad (all provided) whilst our guide sorted the arrangements for our sunset boat trip. After transferring to our small row boat we were rowed out to watch the sun go down over the bridge. Crisps, cakes & a lovely cake were provided by Grasshopper as snacks while we were on the boat. All in all an excellent first day out in the Mandalay area. We felt very well looked after, saw areas we could not have possibly found on our own & so well fed that we were too full for dinner that night!Thank you Grasshopper

We went on a tea shop tour in the morning. What a great introduction to Myanmar food!We visited several tea shops, went to the local market and had way too much food :) Our guide was very friendly and funny, he explained many things about the food, the market and the culture in Myanmar.Excellent tour to start your travels in this country!

We choode the trip "Magnificent mandalay morning" and had a great day on the countryside with a local english spreking guide. First we went to the local market and then the oldest book before we head of to the countryside. We had a few stops on the way and lunch at a local restaurant where we get the chance to taste a lot of different local good - it was delicious :-) then we head back to the city. A nice day and it fits everyone since Mandalay is pretty flat!

My first impression of Mandalay wasn't good. In fact, I wanted to change my flight and leave earlier but couldn't. In an attempt to make the most of my time, i searched on tripadvisor and found Grasshopper tours. I'm so glad I did because I had an awesome time. Anne and her team were professional and very helpful. My guide for the day TonnTonn was great. I was taken to off beaten places. We rarely saw other tourists. The grasshopper team succeeded in changing my impression of Mandalay. The bikes are top quality. In my opinion this tour is excellent value for money. I highly recommend it.
