After almost three weeks in Myanmar I wanted somewhere comfortable for my last two nights. Golden Star Guesthouse was excellent- everything I was looking for. The room was bright with decent size window, huge comfortable double with single bunk bed above (could actually sleep three but that would be a squeeze with luggage), good A/C, powerful and hot shower, nice loo and absolutely spotless throughout. Breakfast was basic but fine- coffee, fruit and bun. The owner is very friendly and helpful, arranging my airport taxi and making sure I woke up on time at 5am! Location is great for walking everywhere in downtown Yangon and ferry's across the river to Dalah. Cons are minor- There is very little communal space so if you are looking to meet fellow travelers this may not be the best place. Stairs and lower floors of the building itself (excluding the guesthouse) are rather grotty. But I actually found it fascinating sneaking a peak into the apartments below as you walk up and down the stairs. A bit of traffic noise from Strand Road but didn't bother me. All in all this is a really good value guesthouse for Yangon and I can't recommend it enough.
