For the best part of a year now, we've had a tradition of going out for breakfast on a Sunday morning at a well-known "kid-friendly" restaurant here in Phnom Penh. Last Sunday, we decided to change things up and try Gasolina for our traditional family-Sunday-breakfast. We've been to Gasolina several times before (for functions or birthday parties) but never for breakfast. We chose to go there because we knew that they have a great kid-friendly space (climbing wall, swings, sandpit etc.). But we were blown away by the service and efficiency, not to mention the quality of the food. I'd never ordered a la carte there before. We chose a chocolate pancake and fish fingers from the kids menu. I was expecting the standard kids' menu fare. I was so wrong. The pancake was really a perfectly done crepe. The fish fingers were so fabulous that my husband and I were not so subtly stealing bites of it from our kids. It was plainly obvious that these were no frozen fish fingers. I told the waitress how delicious they were and she told us that the fish is bought fresh from the market and breaded every morning. For myself, I ordered the beef burger (well done). It arrived looking amazing and exactly as I'd requested. My husband ordered the wings. Now, he's a bit of a hard customer when it comes to wings but even he admits that they met his standards. Moreover, the little touches really impressed us. These guys understand what "kid-friendly" truly means. We ordered smoothies for the boys and they came in plastic cups and they gave the boys dull knives; anyone who has ever raised a toddler will understand the importance of that last statement LOL :) Our kids' food came before ours, which meant that we could help them eat and then send them off to play while we enjoyed our food. We were maybe half-way through our meal when my husband and I looked at each other and decided that this was going to be our new "Sunday place".
