Fu-unji is the place to go for tsukemen in Shinjuku. The double soup, made with boiled chicken and fish, is thick and creamy and goes perfectly with the flavourful straight noodles.

Why Fu-unji is special ?

Fu-unji 風雲児 is tsukemen like never before, creamy broth of chicken (imagine the collagen) with fish, topped with bonito-like smoked fish powder. This is UMAMI.

The taste of the stock when you mix them all together, is quite unimaginable, and is one of the must-haves when you are at Shinjuku Tokyo.

There are 3 noodle sizes with namimori (small, 200gm or so), chuumori (medium, 300 gm), and oomori (large, 400gm).

The same price for all for the Tokusei Tsukemen 特製つけめん at 1000 Yen (SGD$11.70, USD$8.40).

Fuunji’s Tsukemen is disgustingly-delicious. Its layered flavours of rich chicken broth and smoky fish powder is revolutionary good, grabbing you to just focus on its unique taste.

Add the chewy noodles and slurp like the neighbouring Japanese diner.

The chunks of tender pork, soft bamboo shoots and flavoured ajitama egg make almost make it complete.

For that one final step, pour in hot water from the flask into the leftover salty stock, and bottoms up till the last drop

The Tokusei Ramen (950 Yen, SGD$11.10, USD$7.90) has less of that fishy aftertaste, and most are really at Fuunji for their Tsukemen.

Firstly we got to go in with first wave of patrons when it opened and had a line of people behind us waiting to be seating .it wad quite an experience because we felt it was rushed but we intend to go again and just enjoy the savoury tsukemon sauce again. Plate of noodles were a tad cold but just gotta dip and lather it with dipping sauce . Next visit gonna try it with soup. Highly recommended to experience.

Great ramen! Staff knows a bit English. There was a queue, but it moves fast. The queue goes into the tiny restaurant, and you stand behind the people that are eating. - ramen was a bit too salty - vending machine are in Japanese & English. Some picture will be good. - slightly expensive than the usual ramen (special dipping ramen cost ¥1000) I'll definitely visit this place once
