Why Forbidden City is special ?
Forbidden City lies on the northern shore of the Perfume River just a 15-minute walk from the Hue Backpackers’ Hostel. At the entrance of the Ngan gate into the Citadel are the Nine Holy Cannons cast from melted down bronze wares from the Tay Son dynasty. The cannons are named after the four seasons and five elements (metal, earth, wood, water and fire) and are known as the “Holy Invincible Generals”. They have never been used for military purposes and are the guardian spirits of the Citadel.
Nowadays the city has been declared a UNESCO site and the remaining buildings have been lovingly restored. But, much of the site was so badly damaged that it has been given over to vast rice fields that cover most of the Purple Forbidden City. Even so, the remaining buildings are sufficient to give the visitor a sense of how the Vietnamese interpreted Chinese imperial architecture and adapted it to their culture.

What to explore at Forbidden City?
Today, this historic citadel sits mostly in ruins, destroyed during several wars throughout the nation’s history. Despite some recent rebuilding efforts, travelers can easily spend a long afternoon wandering paths that criss cross the grounds, exploring portions of the foundation, now overgrown with foliage, and examining the painting, woodwork and architecture that still remains. A 10 kilometer moat surrounds what was created to resemble the Forbidden City of Beijing, and 10 gates protect these once royal grounds.

Reviews
The principle reason you visit Hue is to come to this magnificent site. Everything you'd expect from a special world heritage site. Vast, beautiful, and amazing to the imagination given its age
We was there in the beginning of the June, the weather was quite hot and humid. It is not to say how beautiful the citadel is, but the historical value of it is truly existing in contemporary time. The complex of forbidden city was almostly destroyed through the colonial french war and American war. Thus it is nothing to visit except some ruins survived amongst a huge blank ground as the basement if we do not have chance to watch the movie of the entire complex in the past. It is amazing to learn how the normal life of the last Vietnamese empire - Nguyen Dynasty is. The recent authority is striving to restore and rebuild this heritage, and we would visit here again in the future to see how come it would be. It is really pity to see a very historical construction collapsed by meaningless wars Good for everyones to visit.
