Why Chia Te Bakery is special ?
Chia Te Bakery owner Chen Tang-peng grew up in a poor fishing family and decided to enter the bakery business after seeing the neighbor boys bringing home breads and cakes after working outside town. She began apprenticing as a baker in Ershuei Township, Changhua County, and for over four years she learned how to make bread, pineapple cake, wife cakes, sun cakes and mung bean moon cakes.
At the age of 18, Chen went to Taipei to begin her baking career. After honing her skills at several well-known bakeries, she opened her own business at the age of 26. The small bakery steadily gained a reputation, laying the foundation for Chen's success today.
The care that Chen puts into baking has earned Chia Te a growing clientele and made the bakery one of Taiwan's best-known pineapple cake gift brands. In 2007, Chia Te won first place in a pineapple cake contest jointly sponsored by the Taipei City Government and Taipei Bakery Association.

Tips for you
Reviews
These are the best pineapple cakes in Taiwan. I would recommend against anything else a street vendors tries to sell you. For those wanting to purchase these as gifts please be advised that one person is only allowed to buy 3 boxes (irrelevant of size) of the original flavored cakes per day. Lining up is inevitable and getting there first thing is recommended should you want choices of the full range the bakery has to offer.
