Tips for you

  • Making up its Southeastern border 50 km from downtown, it is home to rich wildlife with Monkey Island and the UNESCO protected mangrove forest as prime examples
  • It's one of the largest mangroves in Asia, with interesting activities once you're in the middle of it all.
  • There's a swamp pool with dozens lurking about in the mud and some are big; 4 - 5 meters in length.
  • There's a very secure viewing platform in place when one can look down on these beasts wallowing in their mud filled billabong.
  • Solid steel safety rails, a viewing height of about 4 meters up, makes the experience very safe.
  • There's a beach with a walkway and some restaurants along it at the end of the island
    Things nearby
  • Monkeys there could annoy you in some aspects. Seeing the monkeys is the same as if you do it in other similar places. Trying to feed them and trying to have one on your shoulders, or you should ask the security guys to help you. In some case, you will give them your own food and they retreat it for you.
    Things nearby
  • There are a lot of signs as you enter the park prohibiting people from taking food inside. It appears that their efforts are working as the monkeys were not aggressive towards people, although there were still some moments were they did get a little too close for comfort.
    Things nearby
  • Grilled clams, oysters, octopus were very cheap ranging from $2 to $4 while one portion was huge, which could be shared between 2 people.

It's only 1 hour away from the city so if you rent a bike you can go there, the roads are good and you see a lot. You take a ferry over the river and that only cost around the 2 dollar. As soon as you enter the main road to the entrance you see monkeys, in the trees, on the road and right in front of your feet. The monkeys are adorable but also really dangerous, do not wear sunglasses or hats.I had a little plastic bag with a bottle of water and the ripped it out of my hands. You can take a boat trip and see where the war was, it's nice to take the boat trip but ask other people to join, the boat has a standard price but share it with other people to make it cheaper. Also nice to see the crocodile's and feed them! really cool to feel the strength of the crocodile when they got the food. Really good to see this and make a nice road trip.
