Why Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple is special ?
Being one of the oldest temples in Malaysia, Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Hilltop Templehas had a long history from its humble beginning at the base of a waterfall in 1782 to its subsequent relocation to a 11 acre site in 1850 before moving to its final abode; perched majestically high in the hills of Jalan Kebun Bunga, about 30 metres higher than its previous structure built in 1850.This new temple complex was constructed on a safer location after much deliberation and study, to accommodate the ever-growing influx of devotees. The grand consecration ceremony (Kumbabishegam) of the newly completed Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani temple was held on the 29th of June 2012
What to explore at Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple?
Devotees and visitors need to climb over 500 steps to get to the temple, which makes the temple higher than the one in Batu Caves. Although this may sound like a daunting feat, the breathtaking view on top is worth the effort.
Half way to the top, visitors will arrive at the old Lord Murugan temple, which was built in 1850. This is the former main venue for Thaipusam celebrations (1850-2012).
There are many beautiful sculptures and other smaller temples around the Waterfall Temple compound. There is also a small Koi-pond and a mini aviary with colourful birds and peacocks on top of the hill.

It's been upgrade. And it's beautiful temple. Huge temple. Make a visit. Extra step's! And more higher makes the temple more grand!
"Every good journey begins with first step" - this inscription you will see at the beginning of the stairs. If you decide ... you won't regret that however get ready for a nice slow long climb :), you need to make lot of steps to reach this hill.Only after this effort you will really appreciate this - it is effort but temple is avesome. Quite new looking, refreshed, I have seen lot of work going around. Exterior looks fantastic. The views from the hill are also fantastic.Place not far away form Penang Botanical Garden, can be reached passing-by or by walk.Assure you have something to drink, and bertter more than less :) othervise you will suffer.older people should be really aware - way up looks easier than it really is. they could stay at the base and take a look on the statue and smaller shrine at the right side of the stairs.Toilets and lavabos available at the top.
There was nothing I dislike about the place. Like all places of worship, the place got its own aesthetic values. I feel a bit hesitant going in and disturbing the worship going on inside and the smell of incense is quite overwhelming to me. Probably had there been any procession going on the feel would have been totally different.Anyway I should have told the guide what I wanted before coming along.
We walked from the Reclining Buddha Temple at Pulau Tikus and asked for directions to get there. It was a long walk but it is worth it. The temple is grand. Although some parts are under construction, it will not ruin the trip. The inside of the temple has intrinsic interior decorations. It is a temple at its finest. Definitely worth the 513+ steps.
