Why 54 Langeach Sros is special ?

Definitely one of Phnom Penh’s culinary bright spots, 54 Langeach Sros serves a mean plate of ribs – tangy with a hint of sweetness and slightly spicy. Don’t bother ordering just one plate. The ribs can take a half-hour to arrive, but they’re always worth it. Goat with black ants, “fried fish on the fire lake” (a complicated dish that involves a whole deep-fried fish cooked at the table in a pool of coconut curry), and crab with young green pepper are all excellent and remarkably affordable.

Must try dishes:

Fried fish on the fire lake

A whole fish is deep-fried and then finished on a hotplate at the table in a coconut curry made from yellow kroeung and chilies.

Kdam chaa -- fried crab

Fried crab is a specialty of the Cambodian seaside town of Kep and its lively crab market, which is known for fried crab prepared with green, locally grown Kampot pepper.

We thought it was pretty good. We started with goat ($4.50) which came with a personal BBQ, vegetables and sauces (a bean curd/butter mixture which was nice). We also had jugs of beer costing $2 each. Then we had the famous pork in black ants - to be honest I couldn't tell there were ants in there but you could see them. It added a nice sour taste and was an interesting experience. A band came on - a couple who sang songs in Khmer. So all in all, a pleasant experience, and better than alternatives in this city. I would recommend it. Visited November 2014

Went there with a group of friends on a Friday evening. We were looking for something different. Somewhere locals go to hang out on a Friday evening. We were seated on a sofa at the 2nd Floor. Live band (downstairs) could be heard that created a bit of an atmosphere. I think sitting on a table would have been better. Upstairs if you just wanted the music but certainly downstairs if you want to be thick in the action - absorbing the atmosphere. Beer is cheap. It was US$2 a jug. Probably same price for bottled water. The food was some what different. Local with no semblance of foreign influence in it. We ordered the Fish which came in a hot plate soaked in coconut soup. I would eat that again. We also had fried chicken, fried pigeon (a bit too dry), pork with red ants (good for the novelty), BBQ lamb (tough but tasty) and some vegetable dishes. Not a place if food was the only criteria but a fun place to have a few beers with friends and some so so food. the atmosphere gets my vote in this place. Service was good. Menu in English. Location - easy to find. Visited February 2015
